Nestled in the northwest corner of the city is of my favorite places to photograph weddings — New Leaf Restaurant located in Fort Tryon Park. This wonderful public park is located in the Hudson Heights and Inwood neighborhoods, and after many years as one of the city’s unsung gems, is now a very popular destination for all New Yorkers who want to enjoy beautiful landscaping, pedestrian walkways and dramatic views of the Hudson River.
Valentine’s Day has just passed, a time when many couples become engaged, and I thought this would be an appropriate time to share these places that intersect geographically with one another to create a magical backdrop for many of the wedding ceremonies and receptions that I’ve photographed, as well as other types of events.
The slideshow begins with photos throughout Fort Tryon Park — the creation of philanthropist John D. Rockefeller, Jr., who bought up several of the estates beginning in 1917 in order to create it — and transitions into interior and exterior images of New Leaf which was designed and built in the 1930s as a public cafeteria and park administration building. New Leaf is operated by COFFEED, a charity-minded, NYC-based food & beverage company that donates a total of 7% of its revenue to New York Restoration Project and the Fort Tryon Park Trust.
